The Watsonville Antique Fly-In and Airshow is a classic event featuring numerous vintage flying events. From the antiques, WWII aircraft, and aerobatic performers, the Watsonville show is one of the best flying events in the country. This 1995 video is a classic with Bill Turner interviews on the D-88 Comet, the 1934 pylon racer "Miss Los Angeles", formula and unlimited racer"Pete", and Scott Crosby talks about his Gee Bee 'E" racer.
The 30th Annual West Coast Antique Fly-In and Airshow in Watsonville, California was a fantastic gathering of vintage aircraft on the ground and in the air. Antique aircraft, going back to 1910, took to the skies for the annual display put on by the Northern California Antique Airplane Association and the California Antique Aircraft Museum. Fun contests by these aircraft included flour bombing and spot landings. World War II filled the sky with fly-bys and pyrotechnic enhanced bombing runs. Civilian aerobatic performers wowed the crowd with amazing high G maneuvers.
The Abbotsford 1997 airshow was loaded with action. Always a great show, 1997 was a non-stop, thrill-a-minute extravaganza with a good balance of military and civilian aerobatic performances. This video is a highlight reel taken from more than twelve hours of footage. Put to music, all the show acts are basically in the order of their scheduled performance.
Performers include:
B. C. Parachute Team
Harvard Solo- John Mrzack
Christen Eagle- Donn Richardson
Swiftbirds(4)- John Northy
Pitts Special- Guido Lapore
Air Combat Experience
Scale Spitfires and Mustangs
Captain Lazer
Rich's Incredible Pyro adds the explosive fourth dimension to any airshow. From modern fighters to WWII aircraft, the realism of airborne attacks in felt by the airshow crowd is a rush. With the final blow by the aerial assault triggering the "wall of fire", the fans feel the intense heat flash penetrate the bodies. When I filmed the video for Rich, I went into the field during the assaults- it was a blast.(pun intended) The heat from the wall of fire was so intense that I thought I was fried.
