The Milky Way / 1 / Earth to Sky Gallery

In my quest for shooting the night sky, The Milky Way is a good and fun start. I went into the Sierra Nevada Mountains to a scenic overlook that had a good view from west to east and waited for the sun to set. The Milky Way was instantly visible when the sun was just below the horizon. About an hour after sunset, it was stunning in the crystal clear mountain sky.
This photo was taken with a Canon 5D Mark III and a Rokinon 14mm f2.8 lens. The 5D Mark III is excellent for low light shooting and the Rokinon 14mm lens is one of the most recommended lenses for astrophotography. The lens has no chromatic aberration from corner to corner and it's flatness of field from corner to corner is excellent- sharp in the center to the very edges of the frame wide open at f2.8!
Data: ISO 3200, 24 seconds, f2.8
