Infineon Raceway Girl Alex Gameson at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Track Talk session.
NHRA drag racing is without a doubt, one of the most intense motorsports on the planet. The ear splitting, bleacher shaking, Nitro-Methane fueled, super charged, 7,000 horsepower Top Fuel and Funny Car classes are an assault on the senses and are the major reasons spectators pack the bleachers. The Pro Stock Cars and Motorcycles don't break eardrums or spew flames from the headers like the Nitro machines, but they still put on great shows. Pro Stocks look more like street machines and pump out more than 1,300 horse power on gas and normal carburation or fuel injection from their 500 cubic inch block- the same displacement as the Top Fuel and Funny Car classes are restricted to.
The day and night air at Infineon Raceway's NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series was punchuated with the sounds of racing and the fans screaming when the competitors crossed the finish line. The die hard NHRA fans arrive early in the day to check out the pits as teams tear down and rebuilt their cars. It's here, in the pits, that you can see what the NHRA is really about. Unlike Nascar, the drag racing fan is treated to an up close and personal experience whether it's watching the cars getting prepared for the next race or getting autographs from the driver and crew. When teams are ready to fire up the cars in the pits, the crowd packs around and waits for that deafening blast from 7,000 horsepower and the smell of Nitro-Methane. On Friday and Saturday some of the top drivers get together for Track Talk, a question and answer session open to all at the Wine Country Winner's Circle. Saturday you can meet and get autographs from all the Full Throttle Drag Racing Series drivers in one area. The NHRA and staff at the Infineon Raceway know how to put on a great event and make it a personal experience.
