CDF/Cal-Fire S-2 attacking the Electra Fire 2008 in Amador County, California. The source of the fire was at the bottom of a steep canyon and required the S-2s to approach the upper ridge at very low altitude in order to make the dive into canyon. The S-2 is well suited for this close in support due to it's slow speed maneuverability and excellent visibility from the cockpit. The upgrade from piston power to turbo-prop engines greatly improved the performance and reliability of the aircraft.
